THE STORY OF MUFFIN
Sometimes when you least expect it the Lord tests your patience...this is a story of how one little Beagle tested everyone’s patience then stole all our hearts. Lets start at the beginning. Everyday many animals are brought to the Dothan Animal Shelter...some unwanted pets, others lost their way but sometimes they are loved and cherished but their owners in unforeseen circumstances are forced to surrender them but not without pain and guilt. This is the case of Muffin. Muffin became a very noticeable part of the hallway at the shelter. If you did not see her you heard her. She cried constantly, beckoning anyone to answer the question of why she was their in the first place and she had a disfigurement of a cherry eye. A cherry eye is a bulge that grows under the eyelid and is very unattractive to look at, although it is a pretty easy fix at a vets office. For those of us who went to comfort her and see her sweet face knew that she needed to g where every other animal at the shelter deserves….home. Her days were becoming numbered and her options were minimizing. Several members of Save-A-Pet were scrambling to find a safe place for Muffin. One day a nice lady saw (and heard) Muffin and had to take her home. There was celebration and tears that day and we all breathed assign of relief. Unfortunately the celebration was short lived. The very next day Muffin returned. She cried all night and it was just not going to work out. Scrambling again we knew that Muffin’s days were numbered and her previous owner was frantic with worry about Muffins future.
Everyone knew that if Muffin could not go to a home then she would suffer the same fate that many animals suffer at the shelter that can not go home-euthanasia. Save-A-Pet members called Beagle rescue groups, foster families, prayed and cried. One little dog had captured our very souls and sent us spinning into rescue mode. Muffin was hot going to become a statistic!. One day it happened a foster person from Florida came forward and took Muffin home. We tried not to celebrate too quickly, we tried not to be too happy. Would she come back? Could the Lord have answered our little prayer. On the day this is being written Muffin has been away from the shelter for about a month ant the foster family has opted to keep Muffin a permanent part of their home. Her previous owner cried tears of joy and donated funds to have her cherry eye corrected. Today we celebrate, today we rejoice. Muffin has accomplished what all animals at the shelter depend on us to help them do…...She went FOREVER home. |

You don't know me but my name is POGO. I am a 4 month old Boston Terrier Mix puppy. I was brought to the Dothan Animal Shelter because no one wanted me. I was not born like everyone else. I only have 3 feet. I would have surely been euthanized if a nice foster mommy had not spotted me and fell in love with my big brown eyes. I was sure trying to see what I could do to get out of my cage. I did not realize that I was different at first. My new foster family had a nice big back yard with a ramp to the porch so I did not have any problems getting around and I could play with her dogs too!!! Why was I so special? I knew that things were different. I was feeling things I had not experienced before. Love, attention, understanding, and I was giving it all back to my new family. They took me for a surgery and I was told it was so I could not make more puppies. I'm not sure how to do that so I guess I'll never know! After a few days I was brought on Channel 18 where a nice lady talked about me and I felt so special! My mom seemed sad that no one called about me. I thought I was home already..why would I get any calls? Then she explained it to me....I was only staying with her just a little bit until a family wanted me. I thought to myself Why would anyone want a dog like me with only 3 feet? I was sad at the thought but I trusted this woman who loved me. A week later I saw my picture in the paper on Animal Tracks. I was a star!!! People called and they wanted me!!! Me the dog with 3 feet. WOW!! I heard my mom tell someone that they could meet me, and when she hung up the phone she looked at me crying. She said it was time for me to go forever home. I did not understand her tears but I kissed them away for her. I met this nice family at Petsmart and they had a little Boston terrier named Lizzy. I liked her right away and she liked me. These people ( Matt and Kristi Peters) held me gently and talked to me like my other mom did. I felt safe and loved. More importantly I felt something else. I felt like my life was about to change. SOMEONE WANTED ME.....I WAS GOING HOME FOREVER!!! My foster mom cried again but it was a happy cry and my new family bought me some new things. I had my very own things!!! I love my new home and my famly calls me Anna. I love to sit on MY couch and play with MY new sister and love MY new family!! Along the line of my short life I was brought from despair to contentment and love because a few people thought enough to care. Forever in my life I will be grateful to be able to wag my happy tail and give sweet puppy kisses! Thank You! |
