100% of donations go toward the care of shelter animals, and all donations are tax deductible. Donations may be mailed to Save-A-Pet Of Dothan, Inc., P.O. Box 9323, Dothan, AL 36304 or you may use PayPal. Only donated items should be dropped off at the Dothan Animal Shelter. Receipts are available upon request. Items may be generic and/or gently used. All items will be accepted with gratitude and will be used to benefit those pets housed at the Dothan Animal Shelter or in Save A Pet Foster Homes.

FOSTER FAMILIES

Foster families are always needed to care for those pets that are not immediately adoptable. Due to poor health, lack of socialization and pregnancy some of our pets must receive care on a more personal, regulated level before they become available for adoption to the general public. Nursing mothers and puppies and kittens under eight weeks of age are also placed with foster families. The time frame for an individual foster situation ranges from a couple of weeks to usually not more than a couple of months.

VOLUNTEERS

With so many pets and so few staff, volunteers are vital to operations at the Dothan Animal Shelter. Save-A-Pet is an organization that consists entirely of volunteers.

HELP AT SHELTER

HANDS ON WITH ANIMALS

· Cleaning premises/taking care of animals

· Clerical work-adoption paperwork

· Laundry-at shelter-wash, dry, fold linens for animals

· Grooming

· Walking/playing with animals

· Feeding

· Training/behavior testing

· Giving medication/shots

· Take pictures/update website of current animals ready for adoption (Petfinder)

· Foster animals to prepare them for adoptions

· Anyone under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian while

at the shelter. The same applies for anyone under 14 at Petsmart. A parent/

guardian must be present to sign liability forms if the volunteer is under the

age of 18.

· Offsite adoptions - loading and unloading pets, caring for pets, during

adoption events

· Help with newsletter

· Vehicle maintenance - washing (inside and out)
